Position Overview:

The Heavy Equipment Mechanic III repairs and performs preventative maintenance on Heavy equipment, automotive, agricultural, and small engine equipment used in ecological restoration.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Diagnose, repair, and perform preventative maintenance on a wide variety of vehicles and equipment used for ecological restoration, including, excavators, tractors, dozers, trucks, skid loaders, pumps, chainsaws, chippers, weed whips, ATV/UTVs, among other types of vehicles and equipment.
  • Respond to internal customer needs in a positive, supportive, and timely manner to ensure maximum value for work performed.
  • Provides and maintains personal tools to facilitate assigned tasks.
  • Test drive vehicles to ensure repairs are properly completed.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area and adhere to all safety procedures.
  • Assist with maintaining an inventory of replacement parts and equipment.
  • Maintain documentation of work performed in a complete and timely manner on a daily/job basis.
  • Provide assistance to all other levels of technicians as needed in regard to troubleshooting repairs.
  • Respond to calls in the field for emergency repair of equipment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Certified mechanic; or equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in heavy equipment or auto repair required.
  • Class A driver's license preferred and must have an insurable driving record.
  • Ability to use power or hand tools.
  • Excellent mechanical skills.
  • Ability to work independently and multitask.
  • Must possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to complete assigned tasks in a timely manner.
  • Ability to diagnose problems through computer diagnostics

Physical Requirements:

  • Able to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Able to bend, stretch, push, pull, reach and move as needed.
  • Exposure to gasoline vapors and other mechanical fluids.
  • Able to work early mornings, evenings and weekends as needed.
  • Must be dispatchable to work in the field, as needed, in varying weather conditions, including extreme heat and extreme cold.
