Are you someone who thrives in fast-paced environments, enjoys bringing clarity to chaos, and is energized by building safety programs that actually work in the field? Do you believe that safety should be more than policies and paperwork? Are you proactive, detail-oriented, and comfortable driving change through both action and communication? Do you want to play a critical role in embedding safety into the everyday culture of a diverse, boots-on-the-ground team? If so, this might be the right fit for you!
About Us:
MNL is a full-service ecological restoration company dedicated to Healing the Earth. Our services include native seed and plant production, shoreline and wetland restoration, prescribed burns, conservation grazing, vegetation management, and ecological consulting.
Our workforce spans multiple locations and environments - from field crews and greenhouses to heavy equipment and office settings. That includes reimagining our safety function as something proactive, embedded, and built for how we really operate.
The Opportunity:
We're seeking a Safety Specialist to join us at our Otsego, MN office. This role will own the day-to-day safety operations and serve as the driving force behind building out scalable, modern safety programs that meet the needs of a dynamic, multi-division workforce.
This is not a desk job - it's an active role that requires getting out to job sites, conducting audits, engaging with field staff, and turning expectations into action. If you're motivated by problem-solving, strengthening and scaling a safety program with real field impact, and making safety meaningful (not just compliant), we'd love to hear from you.
What You Will Do:
- Develop, deliver, and track safety and compliance training across the company, including creating new materials, updating existing resources, providing in-person and field-based training, and managing PPE programs & OSHA-required topics.
- Conduct regular safety audits at job sites and facilities, document compliance issues, address immediate safety concerns, follow up with site managers and supervisors, and communicate trends and larger risks to leadership.
- Manage driver qualification files and tracking for all employees, overseeing all drug testing programs and communication associated with it.
- Lead safety-related incident management, including handling workers' compensation claims, managing post-accident investigations, conducting near-miss discussions, coordinating return-to-work processes, and minimizing lost time.
- Facilitate regular safety committee meetings and drive continuous safety improvement by fostering proactive safety discussions and accountability across teams.
- Own the company's safety documentation, including the safety manual, developing division-specific policies, and building out standard operating procedures and qualification checklists to support safe, consistent practices across teams.
What You Will Need To Be Successful:
- 2-4 years of experience in a safety-focused role, preferably in field-based industries like construction, agriculture, landscaping, or manufacturing.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills with the ability to manage tracking, documentation, and compliance across a range of safety programs.
- Experience developing and delivering OSHA-compliant safety training.
- Knowledge of DOT driver qualification requirements, drug testing protocols, and Clearinghouse compliance.
- Experience managing workers' compensation claims and post-incident procedures.
- Comfortable leading safety discussions and engaging cross-functional teams.
- Proactive, adaptable, and willing to take initiative - especially in a seasonal, fast-paced, field-based environment.
- Strong communication skills and a willingness to build relationships with both field crews and leadership to make safety actionable and accessible.
- Experience managing customer safety portals such as ISNetworld, Avetta, or Veriforce.
- The ability to travel (no overnights) about 15% of the time to both field sites and other company locations in Minnesota.
