Are you an experienced safety professional who can take a solid, compliant program and elevate it into a world-class system that works in the field? Do you have the vision to design improvements that go beyond compliance - embedding safety into everyday culture across diverse teams? If you're proactive, strategic, and ready to be the driving force behind taking safety to the next level, this role offers the opportunity to make a visible impact.
About Us
MNL is a full-service ecological restoration company dedicated to Healing the Earth. Our services span native seed and plant production, shoreline and wetland restoration, prescribed burns, conservation grazing, vegetation management, and ecological consulting.
Our work happens in diverse environments - field crews in remote prairies, greenhouse operations, heavy equipment in construction restoration projects, and office-based planning. We have an established, compliant safety program in place, and now we're investing in the next phase: making it more proactive, more tailored to each division, and more deeply embedded in how we operate.
The Opportunity
This is a high-impact, individual contributor role where you'll own and lead the next chapter of our safety program. You'll refine, standardize, and scale safety systems - improving consistency, increasing field engagement, and ensuring they're built for a dynamic, multi-division workforce. You'll be both strategist and hands-on practitioner - designing & strengthening systems, delivering training, auditing worksites, and guiding leadership in building a truly safe and engaged workforce. From prairies to greenhouses to heavy equipment sites, no two days will look the same.
What You'll Do
- Lead the enhancement and expansion of MNL's safety program - building on existing systems to create a scalable, field-ready approach.
- Develop, deliver, and track safety and compliance training across all divisions; create engaging, OSHA-compliant content for field and classroom settings.
- Conduct regular site and facility safety audits, address immediate concerns, and track corrective actions through completion.
- Lead incident management: investigate accidents and near-misses, manage workers' compensation claims, coordinate return-to-work processes, and implement preventive measures.
- Manage DOT driver qualification files, drug testing programs, and related compliance requirements.
- Maintain and improve the company safety manual, develop division-specific policies, and create standard operating procedures and qualification checklists.
- Facilitate safety committee meetings and partner with leadership to drive a proactive safety culture.
- Manage customer safety compliance platforms (ISNetworld, Avetta, Veriforce).
What You'll Need to Succeed
- 4-6 years in a dedicated safety role, with proven program ownership or leadership experience - ideally in industries like construction, agriculture, landscaping, or restoration.
- Demonstrated ability to design, implement, and sustain safety systems across multiple divisions or worksites.
- Strong knowledge of OSHA standards, DOT driver qualification requirements, and drug testing protocols.
- Experience managing workers' compensation claims and leading post-incident investigations.
- Skilled trainer and communicator, comfortable engaging crews, supervisors, and executives.
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple compliance and improvement initiatives simultaneously.
- Proactive, adaptable, and able to operate independently in a seasonal, fast-paced environment.
- A willingness to travel to other MNL locations and jobsites primarily within Minnesota approximately 30-50% of the time (minimal overnight travel).
